  • Tick Chart (listed under time-frame but not time-fixed).

How Do I Open a Chart in AlphaTrader?

    • To open a chart from within the AlphaTrader platform, you must be logged in already, and then select the “Chart” Tab which is the third tab from the left in the upper toolbar. Once the “Chart” tab is selected, a list of available trading instruments will be visible, and then the desired currency pair, CFD or spot metal can be chosen to open a respective chart.
    • After a “Chart” has launched for the selected instrument, a new chart can be opened by repeating the same steps, or to switch the instrument simply select one from the drop-down menu in the upper left corner of the “Chart window”

How to Configure AlphaTrader Charting Options?

  • The options available to configure AlphaTrader charts are found within the“Second Row” from the top of the Chart Window. This Row can be further expanded to reveal a “Third row” just below it by clicking on the “Blue Triangle” on the far right (next to the camera icon).Expanding the addition row will enable you to toggle “Drawing and Compression Tools” (trend lines and time intervals), in addition to finding those fields in a drop down menu on the previous row.
  • Most of the key charting options exist in the main row (second from the top) of the chart window. Here you can find information such as the info panel and price panel toggle, crosshair, grids, magnifying glass, colors, screen shots and printable views, among other available options such as the previously mentione drawing tools (trend lines, Fibonacci tools, etc…).
  • From these two rows, metioned above, traders can access a number of Charting Options within the AlphaTrader charting section available, including 10 Chart types (including tick charts), over thirty indicators, additional drawing tools and objects, and more.

How Do I Draw A Trend Line On The Chart?

  • From within any “Chart window”, first either select from the dropdown list of available “Drawing Tools”which is the fourth options from the left side of the second row. For example on that drop-down list the first option is a “Trend Line – Segment” which enables you to draw a trend line over a given segment of the chart.
  • Upon selecting the desired drawing tool the mouse pointer within the chart window will appear as a small pen/pencil which is ready to activate from any point on the chart. In the above example using the “Trend Line Segment”once the mouse is left-clicked to start the drawing – and will automaitically drag across the chart – to any point until you left-click again.

TIP: When using certain drawing tools, Keep in mind that depending on whether the “Freehand,” “High or Low,” or “Close” field is selected on the next box over towards the left (third item from left on main charting options row), this will determine where you will be drawing the trend line on the chart. For example the high/low will only start and end lines at either highs and/or lows on the chart (whereas freehand you can draw anywhere). These features enable greater precision when needed.

How Can I Change the Chart Time-Frame?

From higher-frequency, to short, medium and long-term time periods.

  • On the top row within the Chart window, the second field from the left, next to the “instrument field”, the defaulted “time period” will be displayed – and can be selected to change the period
  • Upon selecting an available time frame from the “drop-down list”, the chart will update with data reflecting the newly selected data interval, and the chart will automcatically be re-drawn.
  • The available time frames include: 1,2,3,5,10, and 15 minute periods, 1-hour, 2-hour, 4-hour, and 8-hour periods, as well as daily, Weekly, and Monthly periods. Lastly, the “Tick” chart, which displays the number of ticks, has intervals which are not proportional to time but rather to the number of ticks within a given period (whereas, the other time periods available within other charts are fixed time frames regardless of the number of ticks or price udates).

For more information about changing time-frames and chart types, please refer to the AlphaTrader User Manual.
